Description

Darwin’s Delusion

By Marc Alexander from the ‘Skulduggery Exhibition’. Darwin’s Delusion, artist print on canvas.

Painted for the group exhibition titled “Skulduggery,” which was presented by the Studio Gallery Kalk Bay in September 2014. “Skulduggery”, which refers to underhandedness or deception. A fitting theme when we consider the current political antics in South Africa. But wanting to steer away from politically charged art, I opted for another current deception, i.e. Macro Evolution. Here the chimp stares at you while holding a human skull, perhaps contemplating the seven million years it took evolution to magically transform ape to man. My tongue in cheek title, is a play on evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins’ book “The God Delusion.”

Printed on 320g Hahnemuhle archival paper with high quality HP Vivera fade-proof ink – made to last, ensuring a great investment. The image has an additional 3cm white border for framing. The Artist Print edition is limited to 500 prints and each print is individually signed and numbered. The artist print is provided wrapped in acetate with a foamcore backing.
